As the price of food soars, and challenges like social isolation limit access to food for over 65s, an alarming 1 in 10 elderly people face food poverty. With the energy price cap due to rise by an additional 5% in January 2024 (Ofgem), more people over the age of 65 will be making the critical choice between heating and eating, meaning vulnerable people will be at risk of being without food and a warm space this winter.
City Harvest rescues food from across the food industry to deliver to our 375+ London community partners feeding their communities facing food poverty. Free food for 630,000 meals is directed toward charities feeding the elderly and socially isolated each year. These charities include elderly homes, community cafes and ‘warm spaces’, and food banks for anyone in need of free food.

Help City Harvest to support people like Fred. Amid the cost of living crisis, people over 65 are at greater risk of malnutrition due to not being able to afford nutritious food.
