City Harvest presents “The Office”, our very own series spotlighting the team behind our food rescue mission. Every day brings the very real trials, tribulations and triumphs of working at London’s original food redistribution charity. No day is the same, and rarely without beautiful encounters with our London network of community partners, and providing sustainable solutions to business food waste, and food poverty.
The Office: Season 1, Episode 5: Carl
City Harvest drivers’ office is on the streets of London, where they’re delivering vital free food to 375+ community partners across London, feeding people facing food poverty. City Harvest driver Marvin is based out of City Harvest’s west London site in Acton and is on the road daily delivering much-needed food to communities across London in need.
Carl: a smooth operator
Carl’s gentle character and silky smooth voice make him popular with all the charities on his daily routes. As a certified family man, he loves delivering free food to school projects and food banks, where he knows the surplus food is being shared with struggling parents and low-income families or is used for school breakfast clubs and holiday programmes.
In his spare time, you’ll find Carl relaxing and working in his garden – growing whatever the season will allow. This summer: sweetcorn and tomatoes are what he’s about. In contrast to the tranquillity of his family garden, you might also find Carl at his DJ decks, spinning something special for friends at lively events. Whether it’s soul, reggae or grime – Carl is very much a musical man.
In the van? It’s Mi-Soul radio. You might hear the sweet soulful sound of Carl’s van (and voice) before he approaches with a van-load of good food and a big old smile. Keep your eyes (and ears) peeled, London.
“Carl goes above and beyond for us.”

Your support means a lot
Without the help of our incredible supporters, our drivers would not be able to do what they do best: deliver free food and hope to over 90,000 Londoners every week. We appreciate any donations to keep our vans rolling and Londoners fed.
